From movement to conservation in forest planning Movement modelling and Agent Based Simulation to tackle the challenges of Boreal caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou) declines across Canada. The research combines detailed spatial information with population abundance simulation to assess forest planning scenarios to inform forest and conservation management in Northern Quebec.

Research Interests: My research focuses on the changing climate and the socio-economic impacts associated with it. I utilitze open source climate databases, ClimateNA and ClimateBC, that maintain historical data and project future climate data using general circulation models. This climate data is used to analyze the changes in length of ski season at 147 ski resorts in Western North America and the possible impacts associated with change.

Research Interests: Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies (IGS): My research seeks to identify characteristics that contribute to the resilience of rural communities that have been affected by or are likely to be affected by mountain pine beetle outbreaks in forested landscapes of BC and Alberta. The research will provide practical recommendations for how communities can enhance their resilience in conditions of uncertainty and change, such as environmental and economic impacts from climate change.

Research Interests: The recent mountain pine beetle (MPB) epidemic has caused profound change in >20 million hectares of interior British Columbia (BC) forests, affecting ecosystem services such as carbon storage and the hydrological regime. This project will investigate how water resources, carbon dynamics and their couplings have been affected by forest change due to the MPB epidemic and resulting salvage across many watersheds.

Research Interests: The tectonometamorphic evolution of the former Himalayan mid-crust exposed in east and central Nepal My research looks into the evolution of mid-crustal rocks exposed in the Himalaya from three different regions in Nepal. Two projects are based on identifying and correlating discontinuities within the Greater Himalayan Sequence and the third project will investigate the origin of a potential metamorphic dome exposed within the Tethyan Sedimentary Sequence.

Research Interests: Research focuses on using the approach of agroecology for a case study of the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services on agricultural land in the Central Okanagan, BC. A natural wildlife corridor that spans an area from Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park to Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park has been identified as an area of critical priority for conservation efforts, as it contains many sensitive ecosystems (eg. Grasslands) and species at risk in the Okanagan.

P-T-t paths will be used to identify sharp breaks or spatial variation across the exhumed, former mid-crust marking discrete discontinuities.
